Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
