Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
