Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
