Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated anger after Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be taken into custody and penalized "through capital punishment" following their release of a contentious video.

The Recording That Triggered the Dispute

The video footage, shared on Tuesday, features six Democratic lawmakers who in the past worked in military or intelligence roles.

"Similar to us, you all took an pledge to defend and uphold this founding document," the officials declared in the 90-second video. "At present, the risks to our governing document don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can reject unlawful commands, you can reject improper directives, you should decline illegal orders. No one has to execute directives that violate the legal system or our national charter."

The Former President's Incensed Response

The clip seemed to trigger a angry reaction from the ex-president.

On Thursday morning, Trump published on his social media platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he stated: "This is really bad, and Harmful to our Country. Their statements cannot be enabled to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Leaders Respond

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Top Democrats issued a unified declaration censuring the comments.

"Violent politics has no position in America," they stated. "Elected officials who were featured in the video all served our United States with tremendous national pride and distinction. We strongly denounce Donald Trump's appalling and dangerous death threats against members of Congress, and appeal to House Republicans to vigorously do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in touch with security officials "to ensure the security of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these extreme digital publications and withdraw his aggressive rhetoric before he leads to violence," the statement added.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The representatives who participated in the video also released a statement.

"We are ex-military personnel and defense specialists who love this country and made an pledge to defend and defend the constitution of the United States," they stated. "Our pledge continues forever, and we plan to honor it. No intimidation, intimidation, or incitement will prevent us from that sacred duty."

"What's most telling is that the president considers it liable to punishment by capital punishment for us to restate the law," they stated. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they fulfill their pledge to the constitution and obligation to obey only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "Every American must come together and condemn the president's calls for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

More Partisan Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also condemned Trump's comments and posted on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is demanding the capital punishment of government members."

He added: "This represents an outright THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this immediately and unconditionally."

The Conservative official defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This constitutes very harmful, you have leading members of Congress advising soldiers to disobey orders, I think that is without precedent in American history."

The Republican leader also according to sources informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "explaining the violation of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to analyze the terminology and determine all that."

White House Statement

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a reporter, "Is the president want to put to death elected officials?", the executive branch representative responded: "Absolutely not."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the spokesperson declared. "We see sitting members of the American legislature who worked together to organize a recorded statement to members of the national defense, to serving soldiers urging them to disobey the executive's legal commands."

She added: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the command structure, and if that chain of command is broken, it can lead to people getting killed, it can lead to confusion, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are essentially supporting."
