Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

It said wreckage landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
