The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."

Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
