Cameron Norrie achieved the biggest victory of his professional journey by rallying from a early deficit to overcome world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Although he had previously defeated Alcaraz on two occasions, this win signifies Norrie's initial victory over a reigning world number one.

"Huge. Incredibly significant for me," stated Norrie, who becomes the newest English competitor in the record books to defeat a world No 1. "Bouncing back from health issues last year, I lost in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just sought to appreciate my performance in the second half of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the greatest win of my tennis journey, my maiden triumph over the top player and likely the most confident competitor in the sport right now."

Norrie, ranked No 31, also ended Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine finals in a row and 17 consecutive elite tournament victories, which was the top run of results in the Spaniard's developing professional path.

Game Analysis

The top seed looked to be advancing smoothly towards victory in the beginning as he sailed through the initial stanza. Yet, Norrie gradually worked himself back into the game by delivering with greater precision and engaging the Spanish opponent into prolonged, physical exchanges. His relentless consistency and consistency slowly took its toll.

Through most of the battle, the world number one served well but he struggled badly to find his timing with his rally strokes. The 22-year-old looked particularly uneasy executing his forehand, which has been the best shot in the game for a large part of this year, committing 29 forehand unforced errors and a combined of 54 mistakes.
