Supporters Call for Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the pop star are demanding that a man who jumped a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the Australian man pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile features clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more response on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others demanded digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely friendship between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, securing two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
