The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
