Trump Invites Relatives of Attacked Military Members to the White House
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Devastating Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the press. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop granting entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
